Hinterland Garden

This Maleny Botanicals Series artwork was inspired by a beautiful, native, Hinterland Garden in Maleny, Queensland during the Australian springtime. Deep plums and aubergine tones contrasted with the scarlet red and vermillion orange of the Flame Flowers; The Jacaranda Trees, with their lavender-lilac blossom, were in bloom and Cosmos-like flowers offered pops of pale lemon, apricot and buttery white amongst the grasses. Early morning rain made the colours sing; the day's sunshine brought it all into sharp contrast. Painted in situ, while listening to the cicadas; inspired by the colours and flora of Australia.
